Golf del Sur grew up in the 1980s around one of the island's oldest courses: 27 holes lined with palm trees and black volcanic-sand bunkers, sloping gently down towards the Atlantic. The neighbourhood that surrounds it mirrors the course itself — green, well-ordered, peaceful — with low-rise residences nestled among the gardens.
The atmosphere is residential and international: golfers, of course, but also families and European retirees drawn by the tranquillity and the immediate proximity of the South airport, just eight minutes away. San Blas, with its shopping centre and nature reserve, rounds out the neighbourhood to the west.
The neighbouring village of Los Abrigos, a few minutes' walk away along the coast, is the gastronomic soul of the area: a genuine fishing port whose seafood restaurants, lined up above the water, rank among the finest on the island. Heading down for dinner at sunset is one of the cherished rituals of Golf del Sur residents.
The property market offers excellent value for money: apartments and townhouses in residences with a swimming pool, often with views over the fairways or the ocean, plus a handful of villas along the edge of the course.
