The atmosphere
Las Galletas is a coastal village in the south of Tenerife which has stayed a fishing town. The harbour works every morning: the boats come in and the catch goes to the seafront restaurants. The marina next door takes leisure sailors and sailing schools. Around it sits a Canarian village, with its promenade, its small black-sand beach and its shopping streets.
Local life is conducted mainly in Spanish, and that is what sets Las Galletas apart from the resorts nearby. The Sunday market draws residents from across the area. The seafront terraces serve the fish landed that morning, and papas arrugadas. The sailing school and the water sports clubs use the marina.
Everything is done on foot: shops, banks, the health centre, schools and the market. The South airport is thirteen minutes away by car, and Los Cristianos a quarter of an hour. The district of Costa del Silencio, next door to the west, extends the residential supply.
The stock mixes village blocks, seafront apartments and village houses, at prices among the lowest on the south coast. Homes with a view over the marina or on the front line are few and sell quickly. The centre of the village still has houses to renovate, but few recent residences offer high-end finishes.
