The atmosphere

Los Cristianos was built around its harbour, from which ferries leave every day for La Gomera and El Hierro. The old centre is pedestrian, with its church on a shaded square. It is one of the few resorts in the south where Canarians live and work all year.

The bay is one of the most sheltered on the island. The Los Cristianos and Las Vistas beaches are wide and gently shelving, and the sea there stays calm almost all year. The promenade running along them reaches Playa de las Américas without a break, flat and with no steps. The seafront terraces keep working off season.

The town has a weekly market, a health centre, independent shops, local clubs and public services. The flat promenade and the equipped beaches make daily life easier for the senior residents, who are numerous in the area. The South airport is 15 minutes away.

The housing stock mixes buildings in the old centre, residential complexes with a pool built from the 1980s to the 2000s and more recent developments on the heights of San Telmo and Oasis del Sur. Entry budgets are among the lowest on the south coast. Year-round residential rental demand adds to demand from foreign buyers.

Los Cristianos suits a second home used for long stretches as much as year-round living: shops, healthcare and public offices are on site. The neighbourhood is flat, which counts over a long horizon. It suits a buyer after new-build less well, because part of the stock is old and needs work.

The property market

Entry budgets among the lowest on the south coast, from a studio in the old centre to an apartment with a pool on the heights. Homes close to Las Vistas beach and to the pedestrian centre sell fastest.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about Los Cristianos

Because the town works off season: shops open right through, a health centre, a weekly market and local clubs. The population mixes Canarians and settled Europeans, not only holidaymakers. The sheltered bay and the flat promenade make daily life easy, which explains the large share of seniors among the foreign residents.

Las Vistas is the larger and the better equipped: pale sand, a gentle slope, sunloungers and water sports. The Los Cristianos beach, next to the harbour, is smaller and quieter, with the terraces of the centre a few steps away. The promenade links the two in a few minutes on foot. The choice often comes down to how busy each one is that day.

Yes. It is one of the last sectors on the south coast where apartments in good order start at €220,000, above all in the residences on the heights and in the buildings of the centre that need refreshing. Renovated homes close to Las Vistas trade at levels close to those of Las Américas. The gap between a home needing work and a finished one is wide: we cost the works budget before the offer.
