The atmosphere

Los Cristianos grew up around its harbour, from which ferries still set off each day for La Gomera and El Hierro. From its past as a fishing village, the town has kept a pedestrian old quarter, a church on its shaded square and a local life that never stops — it is one of the few resorts in the south where Canarians live and work year-round.

The bay is one of the most sheltered on the island: the beaches of Los Cristianos and Las Vistas, wide and gently shelving, offer calm water almost all year. The promenade running alongside them links up seamlessly with Playa de las Américas, busy from morning to night with walkers and the regulars of its terrace cafés.

Day to day, Los Cristianos works like a real town: a weekly market, a health centre, independent shops, clubs and societies, and administrative services. The neighbourhood is also known for its accessibility — a flat promenade and well-equipped beaches — which makes it one of the favourite spots for senior European residents.

The property market blends old-town buildings, residential complexes with pools from the 1980s–2000s and more recent developments on the heights of San Telmo and Oasis del Sur. Entry-level budgets are among the gentlest on the south coast, with residential rental demand that keeps the neighbourhood alive all year.

Los Cristianos appeals to those who want an authentic town by the sea: buyers of a second home they will live in for long stretches, the recently retired, and anyone who prefers the village square to the luxury marina.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about Los Cristianos

Because it is a real town, not just a resort: shops open throughout the day, a health centre, a market, clubs and societies, and a mixed population of Canarians and settled Europeans. The sheltered bay and the flat promenade make everyday life very easy, particularly for the older residents who make up a significant share of the foreign community.

Las Vistas is the larger and better-equipped of the two: pale sand, a gentle slope, sun loungers and water sports. The Los Cristianos beach, near the harbour, is more local and quieter, with the terrace cafés of the centre just a step away. The two are linked by the promenade — many residents switch between them depending on the mood of the day.

Yes: it is one of the last areas on the south coast where you can find quality apartments from €220,000, particularly in the developments up on the heights or in centre buildings in need of a refresh. Renovated properties near Las Vistas, on the other hand, change hands at levels close to those of Las Américas.
