Playa de las Américas is southern Tenerife's original resort, born in the 1960s between Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje. Long associated with mass tourism, it has reinvented itself profoundly: the Golden Mile now lines up international boutiques, beach clubs and refurbished hotels, while the seafront has been entirely redesigned into a spectacular promenade poised above the ocean.
The atmosphere remains the most urban and lively on the coast. You pop down for your bread amid the café terraces, dine Thai, Italian or Canarian within three streets of one another, and enjoy a leisure offering unrivalled on the island: shows, shopping, surfing the breaks at La Izquierda, golf at Las Américas on the edge of the district.

The residential pockets set back from the action, such as San Eugenio Alto or the golf area, offer a quieter retreat five minutes from the bustle.
The property market is one of contrasts: from older apartments ripe for renovation in the first-generation complexes to fully refurbished penthouses facing the ocean, as in the landmark residences of Parque Santiago. This diversity makes it possible to enter the area at reasonable budgets, provided you are highly selective about the residence itself.
